Bluefin Tuna fishing usually lasts from late June until early November. Bluefin can range from 25 to over 1,000 pounds and from 30 to 120 inches long. Bluefin Tuna typically migrate from Cape Cod down to the Carolinas or even as far as the Mediterranean.
Atlantic Bluefin Tuna is regarded as the most highly prized, sushi-grade protein. Among the top exports for Cape Cod and New England, these Bluefin are typically landing in high-end seafood markets across the world, with a large percentage going to international buyers in Tokyo. Bluefin Tuna is famously celebrated as the “King of Sushi” in Japan.
Bluefin are arguably among the top fighting fish in the world and can be caught in a multitude of ways. Although primarily caught from casting and vertical jigging utilizing light tackle, Bluefin can also be caught by trolling or drifting live bait. With a top speed of 45 miles an hour, Bluefin have incredible strength and put up a powerful fight. When hooked, they have incredible runs, too. We hope you are ready to fight back because a fight with a Bluefin Tuna can last from 15 minutes to three hours.
Distance from shore can range from one mile to 40 miles based on the food source location and time of year. During the ride to fish, your captain will discuss the safety precautions expected of our clients, as well as an instructional period for the boat, the equipment, and the procedure for how to fight and land the tuna.
Each trip offers our clients the opportunity to take their catch home. Your Captain will fillet and bag your fish if desired. If your catch exceeds the size limit set forth by NOAA, you will have the opportunity to apply 20% off of another charter with us.
All gear and supplies needed for your trip will be provided by your charter. You are encouraged to dress for safety and weather, and are welcome to bring food and beverages of your choice. Please call or message your Captain for specific questions you may have for your charter.
Due to their size and strength, a Bluefin Tuna charter is recommended for moderate to experienced anglers ages 16 and up. We welcome up to five anglers for this charter.
